Biography:

In 2001, I enrolled my sons, who were 9 and 10, in classes at Legacy Shorin Ryu.  After attending several classes, my sons convinced me to give karate a try. Honestly, I was nervous starting something new at the age of 44 as it was well beyond my comfort zone. Now looking back, I truly believe that one of the most rewarding things I have accomplished as an individual and, most importantly, as a parent, was to train alongside my boys. The experiences we shared over the years brought us closer. A few years later when my third son was old enough and begged me to let him join, I had the opportunity to train together with all three of my sons. Over the years we grew as martial artists and I had the chance to watch my boys grow into men with karate and Legacy Shorin Ryu playing no small part in that growth.

We have all achieved different levels of black belts and we all continue to train. It is a great source of pride for me to be on the dojo floor at the same time as my sons.

In terms of my teaching experience, I was the main instructor for the Cambridge branch of Legacy Shorin Ryu for over three years.  The opportunity to teach students of all levels was both an enjoyable and rewarding one.

In my sixties now, I continue to be active in many ways. One of my favorite activities is participating in obstacle course races.  I have completed six Tough Mudders and last year finished the Spartan Trifecta weekend.  Karate has played a major part in keeping me fit, flexible and strong, not just physically, but mentally. The disciple learned on the dojo floor has served me well in many areas of my life.
