Shout out to Tiana Urban for competing in a very tough division!
Special thanks to Hanshi Gary Legacy and Sensei Conroy Copeland for their wisdom and support!
Stretching back to the last week of November, Sensei Dauphin and Sensei Chlumsky competed in the Jiu-Jitsu for Life Team Annual tournament, both placing second in their divisions.
The following weekend was our grading in St. Thomas on December 2nd. Congratulations to all those who graded, including Ivan, Amanda, Sangeetha, Monda, Dhriti, Christine, and Stavros!
The following day we had the annual Legacy Shorin Ryu Christmas Dinner in London, where we enjoyed a banquet dinner before awards. From our dojo, Student of the Year awards went to Tiana, Stavros for the adult program, and Sensei Andrew Percival for the iaido program. It was also a special evening for Craig, Cheyenne and Mario who received their Shodans (first degree black belts) - a major milestone for any karate-ka! Congratulations also to Sensei Dave Fowler, who received his Sandan (third degree black belt). Well deserved, everyone!
Next weekend on Saturday December 9th, Sensei Randy Dauphin and Sensei Robert Chlumsky attended the Cambridge BJJ Annual event. Both received their blue belts in BJJ, the first recognized rank in that art. For Sensei Chlumsky, it was the first rank in martial arts achieved outside of karate. Congratulations to both! A big thanks to Sensei Shaun Benson for making the trip as well!
Finally, we had our own holiday party at the dojo back home here at LMAF on December 12th. Thanks to all who could make it and who brought non-perishable food items for donation to the food bank.
Thanks to all of our members for a fantastic month, and congratulations to all those who competed or achieved new ranks.
Happy Holidays to everyone, have a relaxing holiday and see everyone in 2024!
