LMAF Spring Review

What a spring LMAF has had!

So many events and so little time to reflect! Here are the highlights below!

To kick things off in March, we had our March Iaido Training Camp: lead by Shihan Nicklaus Suino of the Japanese Martial Arts Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Students from all over the world with all different abilities came and tried this ancient art and everyone came away with something new!

Next, a number of us - including Shihan Suino - went off to Levis Quebec for the World Event held by Hanshi John Therien’s World Kubdo Federation. Training with legendary martial arts masters; getting to know and training with other up-and-coming promising young martial artists and spending time as a dojo were just a few amazing experiences from this weekend!

A number of us also competed that weekend! Took away some hardware:

Cheyenne Hussey: 1st place in Kata, Weapons and Sparring

Sydney Dauphin: 2nd in Kata, Sparring

Justin Shea: 3rd in Kata, Sparring

Meanwhile at home in KW, our own Sensei Robert Chlumsky also competed in Kitchener Kicks’ Karate Kungfu Mania! He placed 3rd in Open-Handed Kata in a tough division with Dhriti and Stavros cheering him on!

As much fun as we have inside the dojo, we also have fun outside as well! Here are many members of our dojo completing the Spartan Race as a team!

Also in May, LMAF was awarded the Platinum Award for Kitchener-Waterloo’s Community Choice Award for the best Dojo in KW!

Next up is the June Grading! A number of our students were graded to their next rank!

Congratulations to:

Revana, Natashka, Martin, Max, Stepanka, Brandon, Christine, Stavros and Steven!

Special congratulations to Revana: who had been a white belt for 2 years. He worked so hard for so long and finally achieved his yellow belt! His determination and patience cannot be overstated and it all paid off!

The Windsor Open was also an amazing time for Legacy Shorin Ryu! The Kitchener and Toronto branches had 14 competitors and won 32 medals and 2 grand championships combined! (Results below)
