LMAF Summer Camp Recap!
Summer was a busy time for Legacy Martial Arts and Fitness! Kids came from far and wide: from London, Sarnia and even the Czech Republic to come and learn martial arts; have fun and make new friends!
In the first week, the students focused on the Tombo: a versatile 2-foot wooden stick one-third the size of a typical Bo Staff. Throughout the week, the learned the kata “Seiken”: named after a prolific Samurai who was famously proficient with the Tombo in addition to his swordsmanship.
Of course, the students couldn’t leave without some karate training! Special thanks to Senseis Sean FP and Andrew Percival and First Kyu Cheyenne Hussey for rocking the karate classes!
For week 2, we decided to go bold and teach the students the art of the Japanese Katana: otherwise known as Iaido. Our style originates back to the 1600s and differs from Kendo in being almost the ‘quick-draw’ of swordsmanship.
The students learned the first 2 cuts of the 76 cut system (Junto Sono Ichi, Junto Sono Ni) and a high level black belt cut, just for an added challenge and fun (Hayanami).
As always, karate was always a big hit with the students: especially with Sensei Andrew Percival; First Kyu Cheyenne Hussey and Third Kyu Steven Hussey at the helm!
If you missed out on Karate Summer Camp this year, don’t fret! Next year, LMAF Summer Day Camps will be bigger and better than ever!
